Govt pursuing Investment Friendly Policies

Pakistan’s large agricultural lands provide an ample opportunity for the Gulf-based companies towards meeting their food security needs.

Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Overseas Investment, Javed Malik, has said that the new government in Pakistan was pursuing a policy of economic and trade diplomacy in a bid to create an investment-friendly environment in Pakistan.

Speaking at a ceremony attended by diplomats and business leaders from 20 countries, Malik said: “The new government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was focusing on liberalisation, de-regulation and privatisation to create an enabling environment of ease for doing business in Pakistan.

About the challenges faced by Pakistan, Malik said: “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has devised a comprehensive strategy in consultation with all political parties and stakeholders to deal with the issue of extremism and efforts are under way in this regard. Similarly, our teams are working hard to deal with the energy crisis and in this context several projects have already been launched which would soon start generating electricity to meet the growing demands.

“The smart businessman with a foresight takes a long-term view about the potential in a country and region, and the challenges we face are transitory. In the long run Pakistan offers abundant opportunities, Pakistan is a nation of 190 million people and 50 per cent of our population is under the age of 25 with a sizeable middle class which has considerable buying power which opens the doors for several opportunities. Additionally Pakistan’s large agricultural lands provide an ample opportunity for the Gulf-based companies towards meeting their food security needs.

Prominent Pakistani businessmen including Saddruddin Hashwani, Hanif Merchant, Haji Rashid Ashraf, Nasir Schon, Zafar Iqbal and senior officer-bearers of Pakistan Business Councils, Pakistan Association Dubai, Pakistan Professionals Wing were present on the occasion.
